All concerts start at 7:00.  Admission is $15 at the door.

Concerts are held in Potter Hall in the Kenneth Rowe Management Building (across from the Dalhousie Arts Centre) – 6100 University Avenue.

These concerts are quite informal and will also provide you with an opportunity to ask questions of the performer. Each performer also provides a commentary on what he is playing, his instruments, etc.

The benefit is being put on by Friends for Refugees (FFR). FFR is looking for your help to privately sponsor a refugee family. The family - father, mother and two young children - are currently located at a Syrian refugee camp near the Iraqi boarder. FFR needs to raise enough money to bring the family to Halifax and to support them during their first year in Canada. Friends For Refugees will also need help with settlement once the family arrives this winter.You can find out more about the group by visiting their site.

The concert is being put on in order to raise funds for the families. Headliners include Stephen Fearing, Don Ross, Jeff Torbert and Scott Macmillan. You can download the poster for further information.

Jose Vega Biography

José Vega’s passion for flamenco began 20 years ago in his hometown of Cadiz, Spain.  At 16 years old, José began performing in the flamenco bars and tablaos of Cadiz, and throughout Andalusia.  He is an accomplished guitarist and powerful expressionist and has performed in the most prestigious peñas and tablaos in Spain, including Peña la Perla de Cadiz, Tablao Cordobes (Barcelona) and Casa Patas (Madrid).  He has accompanied some of flamenco’s top artists including Andres Peña, Marco Flores and Carmen Jara.  José has also accompanied numerous workshops with artists such as Isabel Bayón, and Ramón Martínez.

José has also had international success performing in the International Music Festival of Qatar, and the Montreal Flamenco Festival, and the Luminato Festival in Toronto.  José recently moved to Canada where he performs with various flamenco companies including the Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company. José has performed in shows across Canada such as “Mezquita”, in Vancouver, “Imagines” in Calgary, and “Spain Meets Canada”, in Saskatoon.

And keep your eye on this blog, as Don will be doing a class for the guitar students (it's also open to non Dal students). It will probably be happening sometime in February, 2010. We'll post an announcement.

PRS are beautiful guitars, although like anything, not everyone cares for them. However, Mark Tremonti, Carlos Santana and Derek Trucks can all be wrong.

Of course, this is a follow-up to the original United Breaks Guitars music video. You should probably watch the first video first in order to get the context. While not as hilarious as the original video, in my opinion, it still works. They went all out on this one. A huge production, relatively speaking.

As reported on the NME blog , the criticism comes today (September 8 ) – the eve of the release of 'The Beatles: Rock Band' computer game, which allows players to play along with the Liverpool legends' back catalogue through their consoles.

"It encourages kids not to learn, that's the trouble," Wyman told BBC News. "It makes less and less people dedicated to really get down and learn an instrument. I think it's a pity so I'm not really keen on that kind of stuff."
